Abstract:

Photographs are mainly of California locations. Other locations include Virginia City, Nevada (studio portrait of miner) and the Panama Canal under construction. California photographs include a daguerreotype of miners in the town of Volcano, the Cliff House in San Francisco, stereoviews of San Bernardino and the San Gabriel Mountains, a view of a log train in Santa Cruz County, the Huntington, Hopkins & Co. hardware store, a view of Pescadero, an Indian food cache on stilts, the Oakland Slip and Southern Pacific Railroad Co. depot, oxen logging, Truckee in winter, the San Leandro courthouse showing earthquake damage, and Grover's Mill in Soquel.
